Believer
So begins the first blog post of many chronicling my first attempt at an actual photo series taken entirely with film. The subject is Sicily, or Palermo and its surrounding areas to be exact. These blog posts will serve as a journal through the process, and the series will be posted at the end of the summer in its entirety. There will also be a few blog posts with some random pictures of our three day stop in Paris as well, but those are just because it's like whatever, you know?
After missing our first flight from O'Hare due to weather conditions and shoddy airport management, we finally made our way to Sicily a day late. Once we finally got there it was too late to go out and shoot anything, but we managed to wake up at 6 am due to time zone confusion and go down to the coast anyway.
The Great Elsewhere
I recently came back from Sicily with 20 undeveloped rolls, so I'll be slowly updating the site with those pictures over the next couple months. I've decided to share my photos with the songs that sound-tracked the adventure, since the music I listen to always seems to have a direct influence on most things I do, including my photography. I shot the following portraits and landscapes with a Canon 5D Mark III with a 24-70mm Canon Zoom Lens and edited them with Lightroom. Check back once a week for more updates. The entire series should be up by the end of the summer.
Portra Practice
I wanted to see how Kodak's Portra film looked because, well, why not? Turns out it looks pretty good. Not Ektar good, but pretty good. I'm trying to decide what film to load up on for my trip in May and it seems that Ektar may be the way to go, although the de-saturated look I got on some of these are not bad.
Family and Things that Aren't Family
Here are some selections from my most recent roll of 400 ISO Fuji Color Film. They are here for you now to see. So see.
Update (with pictures!)
Wrapped production on my new short film Independence Daze last week and have been spending some quality time in the editing lab trying to piece it all together. Already cut it down from 17 minutes to roughly 14, and it's looking better than ever. I'm very excited to see how the finished product turns out, and to share it with everyone. I was also able to finally take some new pictures which was nice and very overdue. Tried out the 400 ISO Fuji Color film with my new Canon for the first time, and although I would take Ektar film over it any day, some of the shots turned out very nicely.
Cats and Blurry Jesus
Been too busy editing and planning my next short film to take pictures lately, but here's a few random shots from the past couple of months. All taken with Kodak's 100 ISO Ektar film using a Canon AE-1/50mm.
